PDB Helpdesk: More on Star Office By Thiravudh Khoman An addendum to Tomaz Bodner's excellent article on Linux and Star Office (Post Database, September 8, 1999). Tomaz referred to but didn't emphasize the fact that there is also a Windows version of Star Office v5.1, downloadable from Star's (oop's Sun's) FTP site. Alas, it too weighs a hefty 65mb. Anyway, you can get it at https://www.sun.com/products/staroffice/get.htm. For those who find downloading a 65mb file less than enjoyable, Sun is also offering a CD for US$10 plus shipping (alas, expensive for Thailand) which includes Star Office v5.1 for all currently supported platforms (i.e. Solaris Sparc/Intel, Linux, OS/2, Windows 9x/NT). Or perhaps you can wait a while longer for the CD to wash onto the shores of Panthip Plaza. Note: Previous to Sun's acquisition of Star Division, Star Office was free for personal use, but business use required the purchase of a non- personal version of the software. I believe (correct me if I'm wrong) Sun has now made it free for all to use. Free - love the sound of that word. |
